Beat For Speed File Types and Missing Music Fixes

CyanCoast confirms local-song import, but the official materials reviewed on 3 November 2026 do not publish a complete extension-by-extension compatibility list. This page therefore separates a safe diagnostic process from format claims that have not been verified.

What the official page actually confirms

The Steam store says you can import local songs and that the game analyzes musical structure, patterns, and energy changes to generate a ride. That is enough to confirm the feature, but not enough to promise that every MP3, WAV, FLAC, AAC, protected download, playlist shortcut, or cloud placeholder will be accepted.

A Steam discussion from the demo period reported that FLAC files were not visible. Another community member said FLAC was expected for the full release, but that statement was not independently verified against the release build. Treat FLAC as a test case, not a guaranteed format, until CyanCoast publishes a current list or the picker visibly accepts it.

Why a song may not appear

First confirm that the song is a real local audio file, not a streaming-service entry, playlist file, shortcut, or cloud-only placeholder. Play it in a normal desktop player, note its actual extension, and use the in-game import control rather than dragging it into an undocumented folder. If the picker filters the file out, test another ordinary, unprotected song in a simple local path.

If one file works and another does not, the difference may be the container, codec, metadata, protection, path, or a damaged file—not simply the visible extension. Keep the working control file unchanged while you test. Avoid bulk-converting your library until one converted copy succeeds.

  • Verify the file plays locally outside the game.
  • Show file extensions in Windows Explorer.
  • Test a short path without unusual characters.
  • Try one known-good, unprotected audio file.
  • Keep the original file; test a copy.

Collect useful evidence for support

If no local file appears, reproduce the problem once, close the game normally, and preserve `player.log` before another session overwrites it. CyanCoast asks affected players for their Windows version, the software involved, and logs through official support channels or Discord. Describe exactly where the file vanished: Windows picker, song library, analysis step, or launch.

Do not disable antivirus to make an import work. If security software flags the game, verify that the executable came from Steam and use the official support thread. A precise report with a non-sensitive sample format, path pattern, and log is more useful than installing a codec pack or unknown patch.

Quick answers

Does Beat For Speed support MP3 or FLAC?+

Local import is officially confirmed, but the reviewed official sources do not provide a definitive extension list. FLAC was discussed by the community but was not independently verified for the release build.

Why can’t I see my music?+

Confirm it is a playable local file, use the in-game picker, test a simple local path and a known-good file, then collect player.log for official support.

Can I import Spotify downloads?+

Streaming-service downloads are often protected app data rather than ordinary audio files. Use Live Audio Mode for music playing through the app.
